Synopsis
This book is more than a second book in the series for the ALEF Arabic language classes for children. In addition to providing guidelines and support for the lessons, the book uses a new teaching method. The new teaching method came into being after research showed that when it was applied in the ALEF curriculum, the time to learn the Arabic alphabet was reduced by 50 percent. In addition, the book also includes information on famous language teaching methods for non-native speakers. There is a series of scenarios outlined which give the teacher inspiration on how to use the different teaching methods to match with their own personality, in order to get the best results in creating an active, participatory and enthusiastic teaching/learning experience. There are also some ideas for activities in the classroom or in the playground, and it offers suggestions on how to solve some common issues faced by Arabic teachers in Europe.Specifications

Sami Azar
Sami Azar coordinates the Arabic language classes for children at the VUB, as part of the ALEF project, where he oversees the development of innovative teaching curricula as well as the daily implementation of the project. Having graduated in Physics as well as Teacher education, Sami started his career as a teacher of physics. He went on to establish the Athena Institute, a secondary school for pupils aged 12-18, in his hometown in Syria, where he worked as school principal as well as physics teacher.
Mujahed Hattab
Mujahed Hattab, PhD in Arabic morphology and specialized in Palaeography, has several published articles in his area of expertise and has worked at Iraqi and Belgian universities. In 2014 he was the head of the educational supervision committee at Mosul university. He currently works with academics at VUB to write a curriculum to teach Arabic for youngsters.
